Preparing for Sunday
This Sunday, we’ll hear from God’s Word in the second chapter of Jonah (as well as finish Chapter 1!). To prepare, please consider reading through Jonah a second time, but with the following question in mind: How does Jonah change through the course of this book? If you have time to meditate on another question, try asking yourself: In what ways is Jonah’s prayer in Chapter 2 a good model of prayer? In what ways may it be lacking?
For the kids listening for a keyword, “prayer” is a good place to start this week.

Sunday Pre-Service Prayer. Please join us on Sunday mornings from 8:15–8:45am in the Upper Room (except for Sundays when we have Church-Wide Prayer during Equipping Hour).

Ministry Highlight: Set-Up Team. This behind-the-scenes ministry exists to serve the saints so that they can hear from God in HIs Word and encourage one another. Among other responsibilities, the team sets up and tears down the tents, tables, overflow seating, outdoor speakers and television and the monthly lunch tables and tents. The team is expanding to four groups of four men who either set up before or tear down after service. With four groups, each man will serve every Sunday for a month, every other month, six months a year. To learn more how you can help, please contact Adrian Bañales or Dennis Chang.
Roots Fall Kick-off. As a reminder, regular ROOTS resumes on Friday, August 18th, 7:00–9:30 p.m. Roots is CBC’s ministry for junior high and high school students.
Men’s Breakfast. Saturday, August 26th, 7:30 a.m. Ed Gonzales will be leading a discussion on the topic “Being Responsible for Your Spiritual Life.” Breakfast will be provided by Jim Bitong. All men are welcome!
Cornerstone Bible Institute. Returns on Wednesday, September 6th at 7 p.m!
Membership Class, September 10th. If you are curious about membership at CBC, don’t miss the first week of our membership class with Pastor Joshua! Anyone is welcome. The class will meet at 9 a.m. in the Upper Room. (For those wishing to continue in the membership process, the class will last eight weeks.) Questions? Please contact James Lee or Adam Bakonis.
Missions Spotlight. This month we are praying for the Uyghur people. Check out the Missions Board for additional information.
