Since last September, we’ve been reading a chapter of Isaiah each Sunday, beginning with Chapter 40. On Sunday, we’ll come to Chapter 61.
As you read through Chapter 61, you might remember that Jesus quoted from this chapter when he stood in front of the synagogue of His hometown in Nazareth. No doubt, those in Nazareth wanted some of the blessings of Chapter 41: restored cities, foreigners doing the field work, and the wealth of the nations flowing into Israel.
But they weren’t ready to be needy; and they weren’t ready for Jesus to meet those needs. When Jesus rebuked those in Nazareth for being less receptive of God’s prophets than the Gentiles, they tried to throw their Messiah off a cliff,
But our God is a God who transforms. He has poured out HIs Spirit on His Anointed One; He is transforming us today; and some day He will turn His transforming power to Israel, “that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3).
This Sunday we’ll learn about God’s plan to glorify Himself through transforming the spiritually dead into oaks of righteousness, that He may be glorified.
Is there anything better?
