Paul had some sad words for the Corinthians whom he loved so much: “You are restricted in your own affections” (2 Corinthians 6:12). Paul’s heart was wide open to the Corinthians but they were squeezing him out!
How could this happen? How could the Corinthians push Paul out of their hearts?
In 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1, Paul has a surprising plea for the Corinthains. He goes in a direction we may not expect. Paul calls for the Corinthians to be a holy church.
The Corinthians’ problem with Paul, and ultimately their reception of God’s Word, wasn’t really about Paul and his supposed deficiencies or his perceived offenses. The Corinthians problem was that they were attempting the impossible: devotion to God while welcoming godless ideologies.
But our hearts don’t have room for both Christ and Satan; something has to give. If we are going to cling to the true Gospel, we have to reject false gospels. God’s temple doesn’t have room for idols…not even in storage!
If we’re going to stick to the Gospel, we must pursue holiness.
Look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday!
In Christ,
Isaiah
